Dental Bonding

Have you been hiding your smile behind your hands, ashamed of the little flaws, chips, and imperfections in it? Is your self-esteem plummeting, and you’re not sure what your recourse is? Dental bonding just may be the answer to your self-conscious dental woes. A simple, easy procedure that can be completed in less an hour, dental bonding coats teeth with a thin layer of composite resin, restoring the natural beauty of your teeth. Mild chips, fillings, stains, and even small gaps between your teeth can be improved with a layer of bonding. We here at Ranches Family Dental are restoring smiles, and boosting confidence, one dental bonding procedure at a time.

Can Dental Bonding Improve My Smile, Too?

As one of the easiest cosmetic procedures available to our patients, dental bonding comes with a wide array of benefits. Not only is it remarkably straightforward and uncomplicated, but it’s also virtually pain-free - unless we need to fill a dental cavity beforehand, we don’t even need to use anesthesia to apply bonding.

Dental bonding is a great choice for patients who:
•  Have small gaps between their teeth
•  Have resistant stains on their teeth
•  Have hairline fracture on their teeth
•  Have teeth of various, non-uniform sizes
•  Have mild tooth decay on visible teeth
•  Have a receding gumline

As you can see, dental bonding is great for just about everyone! For patients who do have a little bit of tooth decay, we will numb the area up before preparing the site for the bonding. Once we clean the site, we’ll then be able to apply the bonding. For most patients, the entire process of having bonding applied takes around a half hour. Of course, if you have multiple teeth that need to be done, it can take more time, and we do advise scheduling multiple appointments for them.

When we use bonding, we will follow the following steps to ensure the best color match and fit.

First, we’ll take a close look at your teeth to determine their color. We will use a shade guide to select the color of your bonding to make sure we have the best color match. Once we have chosen the color for your resin, we’ll etch your tooth with phosphoric acid to texture it. This helps the bonding adhere better. The bonding resin is then applied to your tooth; then we’ll shape and smooth it, so it fits with the rest of your teeth. Next, we’ll cure the resin with an ultraviolet (UV) light to set it and harden it. Finally, we’ll buff the bonded tooth until it’s smooth and shiny and matches the rest of your teeth.

Avoid eating or drinking anything that can stain your bonding in the 48 hours following the procedure. Because the resin is brittle and fragile, you’ll have to treat your bonded teeth gently and avoid eating hard candies, crunching ice, or even biting your fingernails. If you grind your teeth at night, consider letting us fit you with a nighttime mouth guard. If you take good care of your bonding, it should last you ten years before we will need to replace it.

If your teeth are chipped or stained, and you’re struggling with embarrassment because of their appearance, then please give us a call here at Ranches Family Dental at (385) 374-0500. We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have about this procedure and set you up with an exam and consultation for dental bonding.
