Should You Add A Gum Stimulator To Your Oral Healthcare Routine

Usually, we recommend a gum stimulator when a patient has periodontal disease. The use of the instrument strengthens the gums and firms up the gum tissue. By loosening plaque below the gum line, the tool can stop the spread of the disease. Also, if a patient rubs the tool beneath the gum line, oxygen can easily flow into the periodontal pocket. When this happens, the oxygen kills the bad bacteria.
Why Using a Gum Stimulator Is Recommended for Periodontal Patients?
We usually suggest periodontal patients, or people with gum disease, use a gum stimulator as part of their regular dental routine. This routine consists of brushing at least twice a day (morning and just before bed) and flossing at least once daily. Using the stimulator adds to their adjunct care for treating periodontal disease. If a patient does not display any signs of gum disease, he or she does not really need to use a gum stimulator as part of their regular routine. However, for anyone with gum disease, the tool can firm and strengthen the gum tissue.
Use the Gum Stimulator Each Day – How to Use It
To use the gum stimulator, massage your gums at the edge, moving it in a small circular motion. Always use the stimulator after you brush and floss your teeth. Before you use it though, place the rubber tip of the device under hot water. This will soften the point so it is gentler to use. Besides massaging the gum line with the rubber tip, you can also softly slide the stimulator between the teeth. This can be done to remove any remaining debris. While the stimulator strengthens the gum tissue and prevents infection, it can also be used to get rid of food and plaque, which lessens the incidence of cavities.
