Reasons Why Your Teeth Hurt with Some SweetsHave you ever noticed that when you eat some sweets, there seems to be no problem, but when you eat other sweets you experience pain in your teeth for a period of time? This is not uncommon and is experienced by most people to some degree. Here are some reasons why you may be experiencing this, and what you can do about it.

What Causes Tooth Sensitivity?

Generally, sensitivity in your teeth is the result of enamel that has been damaged. There are a number of things that can damage your enamel. Eating foods that are too acidic can strip your enamel away. Likewise, using a hard-bristled toothbrush and brushing your teeth too hard can damage your enamel.

Regardless of the exact reason why your enamel is damaged, once this takes place, you may experience some tooth sensitivity. It will vary depending on a number of factors. You might find that you can enjoy some sweets, but others cause pain. This is likely because of the difference in the concentration of sugar in the sweets: those with more sugar are more likely to cause some discomfort, while those with less sugar may not present a problem for you.

What Can You Do?
Of course, the best way to prevent this from being an issue is to take care not to damage your enamel in the first place. Be sure to keep your teeth clean to prevent tooth decay, and practice proper brushing technique when you clean them. Make sure that you choose a toothbrush with soft bristles, as the hard bristles can damage your teeth and gum tissue.

Also, be sure to use toothpaste with fluoride in it, as this mineral can help strengthen and repair the enamel on your teeth. If you have any questions about tooth sensitivity, please contact us.
