|Walk into any grocery store and go to the section where toothpaste and other oral health care products are sold. You will find a huge variety of products, most of them being pretty much the same. For example, most toothpaste contains the same basic ingredients and works in pretty much the same way.
Yet, in spite of this, we have found that changing your toothpaste from time to time will actually improve your oral health. Here is why.
Paying Attention to Your Oral Health
For one thing, many of our patients find that they fall into a routine when it comes to their oral health. While a routine is a good thing—if you have a healthy routine, that is—the fact of the matter is that it can lead to sloppiness and overlooked issues.
When you are in a routine with your oral health, it is easy to stop paying close attention when you clean. This, in turn, can lead to subpar cleaning. We have found that taking small steps—such as switching up your toothpaste on occasion—can lead you to pay more attention to what you are doing. In turn, paying more attention means you do a better job, and your teeth are better off for it.
What to Look for in a New Toothpaste
If you are going to switch up your toothpaste, there are a few things you should be sure to look for. For starters, be sure that your toothpaste has fluoride in it. While most toothpastes do, there are some that do not.
Second, look carefully at the other active ingredients in the toothpaste you are currently using. Select another toothpaste with similar ingredients. This will help to ensure that your new toothpaste works just as well as your current one. Switch up things from time to time, and your teeth will stay cleaner for your renewed efforts.
